Douglas Electric Supports No Barriers Warriors
Many members of our rural communities have served in our armed forces and now face challenges due to service-related disabilities. CoBank—a cooperative bank serving agricultural businesses, electric cooperatives, and farm credit associations— has partnered with No Barriers USA and their consumers, including Douglas Electric Cooperative. CoBank honors and supports these heroes by sponsoring 50 rural veterans with disabilities to experience the No Barriers Warriors program in the Rocky Mountains.
Each No Barriers experience includes a combination of online learning and meetups, as well as an expedition in the Colorado wilderness. Experienced staff and expedition leaders guide participants through physically and mentally challenging experiences, including rafting, rock climbing, hiking, and backpacking. Throughout the experience, veterans are asked to reflect on their past, acknowledge their present, and explore future possibilities.
The No Barriers program provides an opportunity for veterans with disabilities to tackle personal challenges, stretch physical and emotional boundaries, and overcome barriers. Participants become better equipped to overcome the obstacles they face in their daily lives. Sharing the experience with other veterans also builds a network of support that can last a lifetime.
The application deadline is Saturday, June 15. Expeditions are in July and August at the No Barriers Mountain Campus in Red Feather Lakes, Colorado.
