We are proud to partner with Douglas Electric Cooperative to help protect our region from devastating wildfires. Through our secure fiber network, Douglas Electric can now monitor and respond to wildfire risks in real-time—thanks to fiber connections at every substation and across many field devices throughout the county.
Phil Bigler, Chief Operating Officer of Douglas Electric, recently shared how essential this partnership has become:
“Many of our members are already familiar with the benefits DFN brings by providing reliable fiber broadband to
homes and businesses. What may not be as well known is just how vital DFN is to our core operations. Douglas
Electric Cooperative is one of the few distribution utilities in the Pacific Northwest with fiber connectivity to all of our
substations, as well as to many of our field devices across the system.As we head into wildfire season, this connectivity becomes even more critical. It allows us to remotely and quickly
adjust protective systems at our substations in response to rapidly changing fire risk conditions. We also use this
network to monitor real-time data such as temperature, humidity, and wind—adjusting our system settings as needed
to help reduce wildfire risk.DFN’s support and technical expertise ensure that this secure network remains operational around the clock. Quite
simply, we couldn’t do this without them.”
