Douglas Electric Cooperative (Roseburg, Oregon), an electric distribution utility, is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Director of Operations. Engineering background or degree would be a plus. We offer a generous salary and benefit package. This position is a member of the leadership team. Salary is negotiable and will be dependent on qualifications.
Our Director of Operations will be responsible for planning and supervising the construction, maintenance, operations, and engineering operations of all distribution and transmission facilities of the Cooperative. This individual also oversees Operations to ensure effective SCADA system operation and provides support in the automation of the Cooperative’s substation, transmission, and distribution systems. You will oversee the operation and maintenance of facilities in accordance with accepted standard practices, current specifications, and directives, including local, state, and federal codes.
Additional engineering experience would benefit this position by focusing their engineering expertise on analyzing DEC’s electrical system for safe efficient operation and monitor system reliability and resolve areas of concern, as necessary. This could include responsibility for electric system compliance with all federal, state, local, environmental and safety regulations that apply to the Co-op’s operation. Additional experience developing engineering designs and constructions standards, specifications, and material standards is a big plus. These engineering skills would be beneficial, but not a requirement for this position. At a minimum, the position will need to be comfortable working with consultants and contracted engineering services and be able to evaluate bids, recommendations, and projects of a technical nature.
The Director of Operations is responsible for all personnel in these functions including construction crews, maintenance crews, district crews, engineering and estimating supervision, stores, metering, transportation, and other duties as assigned by the General Manager.
Job Related Qualifications
Requirements for the position include extensive experience in distribution operations, maintenance, and construction work, with a working knowledge of electrical engineering or the equivalent in training and experience. Thorough knowledge of accident prevention manuals, code requirements, personnel procedures, budgeting and general company policies and procedures. Must demonstrate management, administrative and supervisory skills. Must have basic computer skills.
Applicants must be initiative-taking, have strong leadership and communication skills, and be able to exercise good judgement.
- Candidates with an engineering degree are preferred. However, a combination of education and experience would be considered for the right candidate.
- 10 years of progressively responsible experience in an electric utility operations/engineering department with a proven track record of successful leadership.
- Must maintain an Oregon State Driver’s License.
- Must have thorough knowledge of accident prevention manuals, code requirements, personnel procedures, budgeting and general company policies and procedures. Must demonstrate management, administrative and supervisory skills.
- Must have basic computer skills.
